MIUI - Droid X

Sadly I got rid of my iPhone 3g last year to switch to Verizon. About 6 months before the iPhone went to Verizon. Mad? Oh no not much. This was right around when the Droid X was released and as it had the biggest screen and one of the most powerful processors at the time I dove right in. My mistake was not realized for about 3 months. Then I started getting the random reboots, locks, and crashes. Motorola continually promised fixes and we never received them. With GB some of our problems even got worse.

The first three months were fantastic. I thought to myself, “Oh this is so wonderful, I can do anything I want to my phone. Especially visually!” And yes, these points are what grab most Android users the first time around. You can literally customize everything, and with a rooted Android you can take it beyond everything. But when the afterglow wears off, you’re left with a steaming pile of crap that is even more unstable then before you went in.

Well with the latest Motorola build of GB and the failure to resolve ANY of my issues I’ve finally called it quits with Gingerbread and in the long run (see march when my current renewal date for Verizon is set) I SBF’d back to Froyo, back up to GB .602, and installed MIUI. I’ve been hearing great things about this rom which is built on the GB kernel but I was just too lazy to move back Froyo. Well after taking the time I am glad to say that this build will hold me over till March. I am currently running MIUI 1.9.23 with the iOS5 theme. Boy am I happy. It’s smooth, it’s fast, and holy crap it’s stable. Even with out the iOS5 theme MIUI is what Android should have been.

It’s quite sad. Google has a good thing going with Android. The OS has serious legs. But the continual allowance of horrid companies like Motorola to obfuscate the beauty that is Android will only hurt the brand in my opinion. Google grow some balls, put some standards in place. Just because it’s open source doesn’t mean that quality can’t exist. I for one am done with Android and when I can jump ship in March I will. So will my wife. I will do all I can to explain why Android is the wrong choice for your mobile phone. If you’re an Apple hater fine, I’ll recommend Windows Phone 7, I believe you’re better off.

I can say that if you’re on Android, root and move to MIUI. You won’t regret it. The Rom is utterly beautiful. You don’t have to theme it and believe me when I say that the standard them is amazing.

Anyway here’s a picture of me with iOS on my Droid X.
