Since the weather has been so pleasent lately I have been taking the dogs down a local trail that is close to my house. The trail itself is nothing too drastic, just a simple walk through the local scrub. It’s been fun, and I am tracking my walks with RunKeeper, hoping I can track my progress and push my self a little farther each day, but that is not the point of this post, so maybe a little more on that later.
The point of this is for me to bitch. Bitch about stupid people that don’t give a crap about others on the trail. Like I said I have been taking the pups down the trail and I am trying to train them on loose leash walking. They’ve been doing fantastic except when people walk by, oh and when people walk by with there dogs off the leash. ARGH. Why do these people lack common sense? I’ve got three points to bring up here.
1. There are four signs on the trail head that state that an animal with rabies was found in the area recently. It asks to please keep your dogs on leash. Now these are not little signs, probably around 12”x18” on a larger piece of wood. So either you’re an idiot that doesn’t notice signs and you deserve to be infected with rabies (not the dog mind you, it’s not its fault your an idiot) or your just an ass that doesn’t care and you deserve to be infected with rabies.
2. There are plenty of other people who walk this trail with out dogs, not to mention the massive amount of trail riders speeding up and down the trail. I know for a fact, as I have been a cyclist on and off my entire life, cyclists don’t want your dog bolting to and fro on the trail only for it to bolt in front of them at the last instant. I know plenty of people who love going outdoors and don’t love your dog bounding up to them when walking peacefully down the trail. For one, how do you know the dog is friendly? I also know plenty of other people with dogs that don’t enjoy having your dog run up to theirs. For instance I am training my dogs to walk loose leash walk and your dog running up doesn’t help. Also one of my dogs enjoys other dogs but the other gets quite agressive when another comes bounding up. So now on top of everything else, I have to worry about my dog getting all agressive with yours.
3. IT’S THE FUCKING LAW YOU MORONS! For all the reasons and more then I mentioned above.
It’s that simple. Keep your dog on a leash, and if you can’t be bothered to take them to the damn dog park!
